07/30/07 So...yeah....

Woah, how long was I out for??? Between work, trying to move house and other stuff, I feel like I haven't been here for years. So how is everyone?

Have manged to get to all the concerts I had scheduled despite mass floods over most of the UK! Got COMPLETELY drenched at Hyde Park Calling, but the line-up made it all worthwhile.

To sum up -

Peter Gabriel - Legend, but would have preferred more of the mosre well-known songs (although Sledgehammer still makes me smile)

Crowded House - awesome. Shame their set had to get cut short due to lightning!

The Feeling - not sure how big these guys are over there, but well worth checking out for some upbeat pop - also did a superb cover of "Video Killed the Radio Star"

The Answer - rock band from Ireland, kinda Led Zep vibe going on. Pretty good.

Jet - Meh.

Chris Cornell - The man's good. I was never a huge Soundgarden fan, but I did like Audioslave and some of his solo stuff. He did a good mix of everything and rocked the crowd.

Aerosmith -There are no words. I have stood in the presence of possibly on of the greatest live bands I will ever see. Slightly odd set lis (Missed out some classics in favout of some stuff off "Honkin' on Bob" which, although good, is not what you always want in a limited set) but all was forgiven when during "Walk This Way" DMC comes out. Oh yeah.

Also got to see The Who again - the old guys can kick it with the best of them. Was slightly gutted to miss out on Iron Maiden, but it clashed with the second day of Hyde Park, so not much I could do.

Next? A cool triple header in November with Joan Jett & The Blackhearts, Motorhead and Alice Cooper.

Catch you guys later, off to play some Guitar Hero....

06/20/07 Fuckin' good time

Well, hey there y'all.

I have returned from the land of illness, work and general no-time-for-doing-anything...ish.

Am in insanely good mood after my latest concert here, the mighty Muse at the new Wembley Stadium in London.

Dunno if you guys have heard much of Muse over there, but if not then there well worth checking out. They're a cool alternative to a lot of the "corporate" rock that's around at the moment. Essential tracks to check out are; Knights of Cydonia, Plug In Baby, Time is Running Out and Sing for Absolution.

They were fuckin' rockin'. I wasn't overwhelmed by the sound system as the lead singer was often difficult to hear, but damn they rocked my socks off.

Support bands were mixed, two of them I'd never heard of and quite probably never will again, but the main support was My Chemical Romance, who I hadn't heard much of until now, but who I now have a lot of respect for, as they really do go for it on stage.

It's festival season over here at the moment, and as is traditional we've been forecast with heavy rain and flash floods. Great.

I have 3 more shows to get to in the next week; Peter Gabriel with Crowded House and The Feeling, Aerosmith (cannot fucking wait) with The Answer, Jest and Chris Cornell and then next week am going to see the legendary The Who.

Rock on amigos!

05/06/07 None more negative

I can finally cross one off the list of bands I need to see before I die. I've seen Black Sabbath and Dio, and last night Type O Negative was added to the list.

Charlotte, NC does not normally attract the best metal bands since they get no radio play so Type O coming to the area was something of a miracle for me. And they did not disappoint.

They opened up with "Magical Mystery Tour" by the Beatles. They also played songs from every album. The one that surprised me the most was "Anesthesia" from Life is Killing me as that's one of my favorite Type O songs of all time. From the new album they played "Profits of Doom" and "These Three Things".

My only small disappointment was that their set seemed kind of short to me. I would hazard a guess that they played 90 minutes at most. It could just be that I'm not used to small club shows and tyhat there were two opening acts.

Now if only Iced Earth would come to Charlotte.

05/04/07 These go up to eleven....

Quite possibly the ONLY good thing about these Live Earth concerts is this:

"In 2007, Tap will reunite again, this time to help combat global warming. "They're not that environmentally conscious, but they've heard of global warming." said Marty DeBergi. "Nigel thought it was just because he was wearing too much clothing – that if he just took his jacket off it would be cooler."

This reunion will also include the release of a new song called "Warmer Than Hell." The band will play on the London leg of the SOS/Live Earth concert series, and Rob Reiner has directed a short film (entitled Spinal Tap) which was released on the Live Earth website on 27 April. The film reveals that Nigel Tufnel is now working as a farm hand looking after miniature horses. He plans to race them. David St Hubbins is currently working as a Hip-Hop producer and Derek Smalls is in rehab for being addicted to the internet."

This is all kinds of good.

05/04/07 It's all about the music...

So, has anyone else picked up the new Type O Negative CD yet? I purchased it (along with a bunch of other CDs and DVDs) when I got my card back from my old MP3 player that crapped out on me again. Now I have a Zune. :-D

Anyways, the Type O Negative CD definitely does not disappoint. Although, I have to say that the bonus live CD is my favorite part of the complete package. I'm not a huge fan of live albums, unless it's done really, really well, so that should say something there.

Another thing involving the kickass music experience is something that's coming up on Sunday...

Can anyone say Heaven and Hell?

It'll be my 16 year old brother's first concert, so we'll see how well he reacts to getting his face thoroughly rocked off. General admission is the only way to go, especially to a metal show. But moreso just to see how my brother fairs against the masses.

I'll be sure to let you guys know how it went if I'm still alive after it goes down.

That's really all I have for now. Good to be back though. :-)

07/21/06 Is there anything Bruce Dickinson can't do?

Iron Maiden Singer Airlifts 200 Beirut Evacuees:
Iron Maiden singer and qualified pilot Bruce Dickinson airlifted 200 British citizens who had fled war torn Beirut, Lebanon, back to the United Kingdom yesterday. The 47-year-old flew a Boeing 757 to Cyprus where he picked up the evacuees and flew them back to London's Gatwick Airport.

A colleague says, "He was only too keen to get involved and help. He has a strong interest in the welfare of people caught up in international conflicts and cares about what is going on."

I'd like to see pansy-ass Chris Martin do that.

03/28/06 New Music Alert

I usually don't do this sort of thing, but I think this time it's appropriate.

There's a new band that just released their first CD last Tuesday. The band is Hurt, and I think that it's a great CD. I'd suggest that anyone/everyone looks them up at least and gives them a shot. The music type is a little different, somewhat on the dark side so if you're into that sort of thing, cool. If not, you still may like it.

I'd suggest the song Rapture, because it's their first actual single, but so far I can honestly say that all the other songs are just as good. But that's just my opinion. :-)

I just figured I'd do my part to advertise their presence, and introduce everyone to some new music. My part here is done, the rest is up to you.

And just in case you were wondering, that picture is from their liner notes. They have little illustrations along with the lyrics. Another neat thing that made this band stick out and grab my attention.

01/05/06 Lyric of The Day

A Tout Le Monde by Megadeth

Don't remember where I was
I realized life was a game
The more seriously I took things
The harder the rules became
I had no idea what it'd cost
My life passed before my eyes
I found out how little I accomplished
All my plans denied

So as you read this know my friends
I'd love to stay with you all
Please smile when you think of me
My body's gone that's all

A tout le monde
A tout mes amis
Je vous aime
Je dois partir
These are the last words
I'll ever speak
And they'll set me free

If my heart was still alive
I know it would surely break
And my memories left with you
There's nothing more to say
Moving on is a simple thing
What it leaves behind is hard
You know the sleeping feel no more pain
And the living are scarred

01/03/06 Proof that Coldplay is one of the worst bands ever

Coldplay's new CD comes with an insert that discloses all the rules enforced by the DRM they included on the disc. Of course, these rules are only visible after you've paid for the CD and brought it home, and as the disc's rules say, "Except for manufacturing problems, we do not accept product exchange, return or refund," so if you don't like the rules, that's tough.

What are the other rules? Here are some gems: "This CD can't be burnt onto a CD or hard disc, nor can it be converted to an MP3" and "This CD may not play in DVD players, car stereos, portable players, game players, all PCs and Macintosh PCs." Best of all, the insert explains that this is all "in order for you to enjoy a high quality music experience." Now, that's quality.

Source.

Um....then where can you play it?

12/23/05 As long as we're doing Christmas songs

Red Water (Christmas Mourning)
by Type O Negative

Wake up, it’s Christmas mourn
Those loved have long since gone
The stocking are hung but who cares
preserved for those no longer there
six feet beneath me sleep

Black lights hang from the tree
accents of dead holly

Whoa mistletoe
(It’s growing cold)
I’m seeing ghost
(I’m drinking old)
Red water
Red water
Red water chase them away

My tables been set for but seven
just last year i dined with eleven
goddamn ye merry gentlemen

Whoa mistletoe
(It’s growing cold)
I’m seeing ghosts
(I’m drinking old)
Red water
Red water
Red water chase them away.
